Bagalkote :Under the ambitious Sagarmala project of the central and state governments, a water transport project is being implemented in Vijayapura, Bagalkote district to complement tourism and benefit the local people.
Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Water Transport Board, Jayaram Roypura said that the proposed project will be developed near the proposed project sites, namely Alamatty in Vijayapur district, Herakal village in Belagi taluk of Bagalkote district.
On Saturday, he informed about the feasibility of the proposed project sites in the villages of Alamatti and Herakle in Vijayapur and Bagalkote districts, verification of the land acquisition and water transport utility of the project and a visit to the fish farming site proposed to be taken up in the 25 acres of land downstream of the Alamatti dam.
He said that if tourism is developed through the waterways in the district, the local people can get various economic benefits.
If tourism is developed through waterways along the river banks, more number of tourists can attract more attention. Besides, the local people can get various economic benefits from this project, he said.
If this project is developed, tourism activities will be developed by providing opportunities for tourists and residents of the surrounding area to experience water-based sports, said Jayaram Raipura.
He said that this will help in developing the capacity to open industries with other support such as boat/vessel building, boat yards and manufacturing of related equipments etc.
Krishnabhagya Jal Nigam Permanent Superintendent Engineer Hire Gowda, Executive Engineer Doddamani, Assistant Executive Engineer Chalavadi, Karnataka Water Transport Board Assistant Executive Engineer Panduranga, Kulkarni etc. were present on this occasion.
