KMB CEO Jayaram Raipur inspected the feasibility of the proposed project sites in Almatti and Herakal villages of Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts.
Under the ambitious project of the Central Government, Sagarmala, the proposed project in Almatti and Herakal villages will be developed to complement tourism and benefit the local people, said Jayaram Raipur, Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Water Transport Board.
He inspected the feasibility of the proposed project sites in Almatti and Herakal villages of Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts, inspected the project land acquisition and water transport utility, and visited the fish farming site proposed to be taken up on 25 acres of land downstream of the Almatti dam.
If tourism is developed through the waterways in the district, the local people can benefit in various economic ways. Jayaram said that tourism activities will develop by attracting the attention of a large number of tourists and providing opportunities to enjoy water-based sports.
He said that this will help in developing the capacity to open businesses in the area along with other support like boat/ship building, boat yards and related equipment manufacturing. He said that the tourist destinations in the surrounding districts are on the UNESCO World Heritage List and if infrastructure is provided for the development of the waterway, it can attract a large number of tourists every day and generate income for the government.
Krishnabhagya Jal Nigam Limited Superintending Engineer Hiregoudara, Executive Engineer Doddamani, Assistant Executive Engineer Chalavadi, Karnataka Waterways Board Assistant Executive Engineer Panduranga, Kulkarni and others were present on this occasion.
